Walking along the minor single track road from the house heading west is the settlement of Avernish, and a lovely bay, which, for convenience, I am calling "Avernish Bay", though there is no map name. The road shortly turns into a rough track and there are some houses along here. Eventually the rough track turns into a grassy path which leads to a deserted village.

There is a network of grassy paths which make for lovely walks from the deserted village, and there are fine views of the Isle of Skye. There is a lovely viewpoint above some cliffs near Kirkton Bay. It is possible to work one's way around to Kirkton and Auchtertyre though as yet I have not worked out the best route.
